Cookies and tracking technologies

This page explains which cookies gadgerz-shoppy.com uses, what they are for, how long they last and how you can change your mind at any time. It is written to be read, not endured: if any part of it is unclear, email us at info@gadgerz-shoppy.com and we will reply within 24 business hours.

The site is operated by Gadgerz Shoppy LTD, a private company limited by shares registered in England and Wales, with its registered office at 29 Colville Terrace, London W11 2AR, United Kingdom. Gadgerz Shoppy LTD is the data controller for the data collected through the cookies on this site.

In two lines: essential cookies are always on, because without them the site does not work. Analytics and marketing cookies (Google Analytics and Google Ads) are switched on only if you press Accept on the banner. You can change or withdraw your consent whenever you like using the Cookie preferences button at the bottom of every page.

What cookies are and why we use them

A cookie is a small text file that a website saves in your browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) when you visit it. On your next visit the site can read that file again. Its job is to remember something: that you have already answered the banner, that you have filled in a form, which advert brought you here.

Alongside cookies there are other tools that work in a similar way: tracking pixels (invisible images), JavaScript tags and browser storage areas (local storage). On this page we call them all “cookies” for simplicity, because the rules we apply to them are the same.

We use them for three reasons, and only these three:

  1. To make the site work. Loading pages, remembering your choice on the banner, letting your contact form go through without duplicates.
  2. To understand how the site is used. How many people visit a page, which pages are read most, from which device. These are aggregated numbers; we do not need them to know who you are.
  3. To measure advertising. If you arrive from a Google advert, cookies tell us which advert led to an order. Without that we do not know which campaigns work.

We do not sell your data and we do not pass it to mailing lists or data brokers. The only outside parties that receive data through the cookies on this site are the ones listed in the “Third-party cookies” table below, and only for the purposes you have agreed to. We do not use cookies to build a profile of your health, your political opinions or any other sensitive data.

The rule we follow: no non-essential cookies before you agree

On your first visit you see a banner. Until you choose, the site installs only the essential cookies listed below. Analytics and marketing tools stay switched off: they do not run, they do not send data, they write nothing to your browser.

Essential cookies: needed for the site to work

These cookies do not need your consent, because without them the site cannot work or cannot remember your choices. They are not used for advertising and they do not track your browsing on other sites.

Cookie name Who sets it What it does Duration
cookieyes-consent CookieYes, a plugin installed on our site Remembers which categories of cookies you accepted or refused, so we do not ask you the same thing again 1 year
viewed_cookie_policy CookieYes Records that you have already seen and closed the banner 1 year
cookielawinfo-checkbox-necessary
cookielawinfo-checkbox-analytics
cookielawinfo-checkbox-advertisement
cookielawinfo-checkbox-functional
cookielawinfo-checkbox-performance
cookielawinfo-checkbox-others
CookieYes Store your individual choice for each category on the banner 1 year
PHPSESSID Our site Identifies your browsing session and keeps together the requests you make during a single visit Until you close the browser
wordpress_test_cookie WordPress (the system the site runs on) Checks that your browser accepts cookies Until you close the browser
wp-settings-<number>
wp-settings-time-<number>
WordPress Display preferences for the admin area. They are set only for people who log in to edit the site, never for visitors 1 year
_lscache_vary The server caching system (LiteSpeed) Serves the correct version of the page and speeds up loading Until you close the browser
frm_form<number>_<code> Formidable Forms, the form we use to collect enquiries Stops the same form being submitted twice by mistake. Present only on the contact page Up to 1 year

Some of these cookies appear only in specific situations: the WordPress ones with the wp-settings prefix, for example, concern the people who administer the site, not the people who visit it. The exact names used by the consent plugin change slightly depending on the version installed: you will always find the live, up-to-date list inside the Cookie preferences panel.

Analytics and marketing cookies (Google Ads, Google Analytics): names, purposes and duration

These cookies run only after you have given consent. If you refuse, or if you choose nothing, they are not installed.

Analytics (Google Analytics)

They tell us how many people visit the site and which pages they read. We work on aggregated data: we care that a product page is rarely read, not what you personally looked at.

Cookie name Purpose Duration
_ga Tells one visitor from another by giving the browser a random code 2 years
_ga_<property code> Keeps the session state in Google Analytics 4 2 years
_gid Tells visitors apart within a single day 24 hours
_gat, _gat_gtag_<code> Limits the number of requests sent to Google, to keep the site light 1 minute

Marketing and ad measurement (Google Ads)

These connect an order to the advert that produced it and stop you being shown the same advert over and over. They are profiling cookies, which is why we ask you about them explicitly.

Cookie name Domain that sets it Purpose Duration
_gcl_au gadgerz-shoppy.com Links the visit to the click on the advert and makes conversion attribution possible (Google Conversion Linker) 90 days
_gcl_aw, _gcl_dc gadgerz-shoppy.com Store the click on a Google Ads advert for conversion measurement 90 days
IDE doubleclick.net (Google) Measures how well adverts perform and limits how often the same advert is repeated 13 months
test_cookie doubleclick.net (Google) Checks once whether the browser accepts cookies 15 minutes
NID google.com Stores preferences and personalises the adverts shown across Google services 6 months

The durations shown are the ones declared by whoever sets the cookie and may be changed by the provider without notice. The clock starts again on every new visit in which the cookie is renewed. For an always up-to-date picture of the cookies sitting in your browser, open the Cookie preferences panel.

If you would rather not, you lose nothing that matters: the site, the contact forms and customer support work exactly the same with analytics and marketing refused.

Third-party cookies and links to their notices

Some cookies are set by companies other than us. We decide whether to switch them on and for what purpose, but the data they collect is also handled under their own rules. Here is who they are and where to read their notices.

Company Service and what it does Notice and control tools
Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC Google Analytics 4: visit statistics. Google Ads: measurement and personalisation of adverts
CookieYes Limited The banner plugin: it collects and stores the record of your consent CookieYes privacy policy
Google (YouTube) Only on pages with an embedded video. The video is not loaded and sets no cookies until you give consent or press play Google privacy policy

Payments: how things stand today

There is no online checkout and no payment is taken on this site. You send an enquiry through the contact form, where the product can be preselected, or by email. We reply by email with the price, the delivery charge, the delivery time, the payment methods available for that order and when payment is due. How to pay is agreed by email before the order is confirmed; a contract is formed only when you accept our confirmation email in writing. Nothing is payable until you accept our written confirmation. We charge no fee for any payment method. Cash on delivery is available only where a specific product page says so. No payment network sets cookies on this site: there are no Stripe, PayPal, Visa, Mastercard or American Express cookies, because those services are not active.

Where the data goes

Google is based in the United States. Data collected through its cookies may therefore be transferred outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. The transfer is made on the basis of the safeguards set out in Chapter V of the UK GDPR and of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, described in the Google notice linked above. If you refuse analytics and marketing cookies, no such transfer takes place.

How to change or withdraw your consent at any time (Cookie preferences button)

Consent is not for ever. You can withdraw or change it whenever you like, without writing to anyone and without giving a reason. Withdrawing consent has to be as easy as giving it: it takes two clicks.

  1. Scroll to the bottom of any page on the site.
  2. Press the Cookie preferences button.
  3. The panel with the categories opens again: move the switch on each category to turn it on or off.
  4. Press Save. The new choice applies straight away, from that moment on.

You can also open the panel from here:

Open Cookie preferences

Withdrawal applies going forward: cookies already installed before you withdrew are switched off and collect no further data, but if you want them removed from your device straight away you need to delete them in your browser, as explained in the next section. If the button does not respond (because your browser blocks scripts, for example), email us at info@gadgerz-shoppy.com and we will talk you through it.

How to manage cookies in your browser

As well as our panel, you can act directly from your browser: see which cookies are saved, delete them or block them in advance. This applies to every site you visit, not just ours.

  1. Open the three-dot menu at the top right.
  2. Choose Settings, then Privacy and security.

One thing to watch. If you block all cookies, you block the essential ones too: the contact form may stop working and the banner will come back on every visit, because the site can no longer remember your choice. If all you want is to avoid advertising, it is better to refuse those categories in the Cookie preferences panel and leave the essential cookies on.

If you clear the cookies in your browser, you also clear the record of your refusal: on your next visit the banner will reappear and you will have to answer again.

How this page relates to our privacy notice

This page covers only cookies and similar technologies. It does not cover the other data you give us: your name, email, optional telephone number, product of interest, enquiry checkbox choices, optional order number and message from the contact form, or your email correspondence. We collect your delivery address only when you confirm an order by email.

That data is covered by our privacy notice, where you will find the legal basis for each use, how long we keep the data and how to exercise your rights: access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability.

The two pages work together:

Frequently asked questions

If I refuse, does the site stop working?

No. You can browse, read the product pages, send the contact form and receive your goods exactly as before. The only difference is that we do not see the statistics for your visit and we do not connect any order to an advert.

Does my phone number end up in Google’s cookies?

No. The Google cookies described on this page collect technical identifiers for the browser: they do not contain your name, email, optional telephone number, product of interest, enquiry checkbox choices, optional order number or message from the contact form. How we handle that data, and who we share it with to get your order to you, is explained in our privacy notice.

I accepted by mistake. How do I undo it?

Scroll to the bottom of the page, press Cookie preferences, switch off the categories you do not want and press Save. Done. If you would rather, email us and we will check it together.

Why does the banner keep coming back?

That happens if you have cleared your browser cookies, if you browse in private or incognito mode, if you use another device, or if the consent period has expired. In all of those cases the site no longer has a record of your choice and has to ask you again.
